Whoa.  How bout this week's LOST & BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, eh?  My head is spinning. 

I have some basic thoughts - and a bunch of questions -  on BSG posted in the comments section over here if you're interested.  I have only watched it once and plan to rewatch, read everyone else's thoughts, and then maybe have a bit more to say.  But...wow.

Meanwhile, can I get a HUZZAH for the first HEROES season 3 promo spot?  Three friggin' hours?! W00t.



Also forgot to mention earlier in the week, that I watched the PBS movie CRANFORD last Sunday night based on Mo Ryan's review.  And for any of you Jane Austen/Brit period piece drama fans out there -- see it!  Excellent, witty, and surprisingly matriarchal.  Great acting...and a welcome respite from the intensely romantic nature of many of those BBC films.  This has all the usual romantic entanglements and all that -- but also much more of THE REST OF LIFE.  You can still catch part 1 (of 3) on PBS's site, and part 2 is coming tomorrow.

The cast and crew of the upcoming "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" were just a few weeks into filming in Vancouver when Frank Spotnitz, the co-writer and co-producer with creator-director Chris Carter, called star David Duchovny over to a laptop computer to watch a fan-made video on YouTube. It was a montage of scenes from the old "X-Files" show set to Sarah McLachlan's forlorn "When She Loved Me."

"It was intensely romantic and it almost brought tears to my eyes," Duchovny recalled. "It really did. And it reminded me that we have at the core of 'The X-Files' this very powerful relationship. We have to honor that and not shy away from the sentimentality of the fans or of the relationship itself. When we were doing the show, Gillian [Anderson] and I had got tired of it. And we wanted to be ourselves outside of it. I remember struggling. But now I think, 'God, what a great love affair.' "

So...they all sat around on set, getting teary-eyed over shipper fanvids?  Oh, it's just too, too much.  :)

Looks like Hanami, the viewing time for cherry blossom trees in bloom, is peaking and starting its delightful rain-of-blossoms period here in New York.

The Brooklyn Botanical Garden boasts a delightful collection of trees, which their blossom map currently lists as mostly IN PEAK as of this past Friday. So hurry up if you're gonna go sit under the rain of petals.

They even posted this lovely timelapse video of the bloom this season...[downloadable version here]

Watched the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and LOST eps last night, after a late night at the office.

Holy crap that's good TV.

Just.  Maaaaan!!


Also, on a sidenote: all of us who have adored Robert Downey Jr. since the frakkin' 1980s? We have some bigass smiles on our faces right now.  Heh heh.

Hint: it wasn't the shoes, the softcore, or the glamour.

Three soulmates will always be better than just one.  ;)

I may have to go try all of these sandwiches now.

Great news for you folks who missed it.  Now you can consume it at your own pace, that 5-nights-a-week stuff was tough even for a junkie like me.

I assume JOHN ADAMS is also forthcoming? ETA: yes it is, even sooner on June 10.  (thanks cujoy!)

[30 ROCK & GREY'S ANATOMY]

Have you seen this "Jokerized" DARK KNIGHT trailer?  Fraggin' brilliant.



Not only is this just a great trailer but, per Sci Fi Wire:
Fans following a viral campaign to promote The Dark Knight on April 28 got a sneak peek at the film's newest trailer, which debuts on the Web on Sunday; a lucky few fans received a reel of the trailer that had been "Jokerized."

In other words the trailer was literally MAILED to some fans, who projected it on a wall and posted that to youtube?  Too good.

And this film doesn't even NEED to make such great advertising.  They do it cuz...THEY CARE.  LOL.  [btw if the trailer gets yanked, you can DL it here.]

ETA: a day later...and this hasn't been yanked.  So it's probably all fake viral - and you know what? I don't give a frak, I still loved it. The trailer is still great.

TV was pwning this past week...the AMADEUS-inspired ep of 30 ROCK had me ROFLMAO.  Again.  Welcome back GREY'S ANATOMY with a bang.  I still love you -- even though you are dating someone else!  UGLY BETTY continues to make me giggle nonstop.  Many of you have probably read how I feel about BATTLESTAR.  I miss JOHN ADAMS and its grandeur (not to mention that gorgeous score cue that I am STILL HUMMING TO MYSELF WTF).  Sigh.

And THE TUDORS? Well I am quite glad I stuck with it thus far, because this Sunday's ep was absolutely the best one yet.  In the entire series.  Great stuff, with the entire cast bringing their A Game for serious.  So it's good news that it's getting a third season in my book.  Jeremy Northram is a huge loss, but the show is cruising along at a high, high level.  How amazing is Peter O'Toole as the pope?  They certainly give him some terrific lines.  As fun as all the palace intrigue on this show can be, my favorite element here involves religion - bringing all this history to life in such an engaging way.  You see precedents being laid here that draw a clear path towards the founding of our own American society.  I've never been much of a history nerd, so much of this perspective is new for me.

As for...THAT SHOW...it just about blew my mind last Thursday night (actually Saturday afternoon when I got around to watching it, heh).  Seriously I don't even know what to say about it.  Other than how amazing Benjamin Linus is.  He's right up there with DEADWOOD's Swearengen and BATTLESTAR's Baltar as a great character whose every move, every word, every scheme, is a joy to watch and fully realized by the writers and actors involved.

Meanwhile: time for MAD MED S1 DVD pre orders people!  *\o/*

PS...did anyone check out the live video stream from AT&T's Blue Room? Did it work? Last time I tried to watch one of those streams a few years ago, I could never get logged on...server breakdown or PC-ist (ie, racist against Mac users) or some such.

FYI, for those of us now keeping tabs on all these upcoming Fox network sci-fi shows, I found this amazingly primitive, but informative blog on Fox's official site. 

Looks like they'll be aggregating materials about the new shows by Joss Whedon, J.J. Abrams, Ron Moore, etc, as well as S2 of SARAH CONNOR. 

Kewl.  Blogroll could use some work.  But still kewl.
